Job Description

Custom Project Manager

Full-Time | Hybrid Field & Office | Tacoma, WA

A growing Pacific Northwest custom manufacturing and commercial interiors company is seeking a highly creative, technically minded Custom Project Manager to lead complex, one-of-a-kind commercial build projects from concept through installation.

This is not a traditional “check-the-box” project management role. The ideal candidate thrives in highly customized environments where every project is different, details matter, and creative problem-solving is part of the daily workflow.

You’ll work closely with design teams, fabrication, production, and field installation crews to help bring visually striking commercial spaces to life.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage custom commercial projects from kickoff through final installation
  • Coordinate across internal production teams, fabrication, vendors, installers, and customers
  • Interpret design intent and help translate concepts into manufacturable, installable solutions
  • Review drawings, layouts, materials, site conditions, and project constraints
  • Support problem-solving related to custom millwork, cabinetry, metals, trim, wall systems, architectural features, and specialty finishes
  • Visit job sites regularly to support field execution and ensure project success
  • Manage multiple active projects simultaneously with shifting priorities and timelines
  • Help identify constructability concerns before they become production or installation issues
  • Communicate clearly with both highly creative stakeholders and hands-on field teams
  • Balance project timelines, budgets, logistics, and customer expectations in a fast-moving environment

Types of Projects

Projects primarily support:
  • Commercial amenity spaces
  • Mixed-use developments
  • Hospitality environments
  • Schools and institutional facilities
  • Healthcare environments
  • Luxury common areas and lobby spaces
  • Restaurants and specialty interiors

This role is focused entirely on commercial and mixed-use environments — no residential projects.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience managing custom construction, millwork, cabinetry, interiors, architectural products, or specialty fabrication projects
  • Strong understanding of how custom products are built, assembled, and installed
  • Ability to think creatively while remaining highly organized
  • Comfortable managing several projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
  • Experience collaborating with production, fabrication, installation, or construction teams
  • Ability to read drawings and understand construction documentation
  • Exposure to CAD, Bluebeam, or design software preferred
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt when project requirements evolve

Preferred Backgrounds

Candidates from the following environments often align well:
  • Commercial millwork or cabinetry
  • Custom fabrication shops
  • Architectural products or interiors
  • General contractors with interiors experience
  • Commercial furniture or fixture companies
  • Hospitality or amenity construction
  • Specialty woodworking or finish carpentry environments

What Makes This Role Different
  • Every project is unique and highly customized
  • Opportunity to work on visually impressive, design-forward commercial spaces
  • Blend of creativity, technical coordination, and real-world execution
  • Highly collaborative environment with exposure to fabrication and field operations
  • Fast-paced role with strong variety and autonomy

Schedule & Environment
  • Primarily based in Tacoma, WA
  • Combination of office, job site, and occasional remote flexibility
  • Typically 4 days onsite/in the field with some flexibility depending on project demands
  • Some regional travel may be required

Compensation & Benefits
  • $100,000 – $120,000 DOE
  • Full benefits package including:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • PTO
  • Life insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Employee assistance program

This is an active and urgent search for a company experiencing continued project demand and growth.
