Lead Power Technician (Level 4)

Field Service | Critical Power Systems

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Power Technician (Level 4) to support and lead field operations for critical DC and AC power systems. This role is ideal for a senior technician who enjoys hands-on technical work while also guiding projects, setting job-site standards, and mentoring other technicians.

Level 4 technicians serve as lead techs in the field, overseeing complex installations, ensuring safety and quality compliance, and acting as the primary technical authority on site. This is a safety-sensitive, travel-based role supporting mission-critical infrastructure environments.

Travel & Schedule
  • Approximately 50% travel, typically home on weekends
  • Occasional night or weekend work depending on customer requirements
  • Variable shifts based on project and site needs

Key Responsibilities

DC Power Systems – Installation & Service
  • Lead installation, upgrade, and maintenance of DC power systems across multiple voltage levels
  • Install and service batteries, rectifiers, inverters, converters, and DC distribution equipment
  • Perform system diagnostics including load testing, voltage and gravity readings, and preventive maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex DC power system issues

Power Distribution & Cabling
  • Lead installation of cable racking, ironwork, and support structures, including seismic-rated environments
  • Run, terminate, and dress power cabling; perform lug crimping and lacing
  • Ensure all electrical connections meet quality, safety, and industry standards

AC Power Work
  • Safely perform AC electrical work ranging from 120V single-phase up to 480V three-phase

Leadership & Job-Site Oversight
  • Act as the lead technician on assigned job sites
  • Conduct daily pre-job safety meetings and job hazard analyses
  • Inspect tools, equipment, and work areas for safety compliance
  • Mentor and train junior technicians (Levels 1–3)
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and customer-specific safety requirements

Documentation & Coordination
  • Prepare job reports, test documentation, and procedures
  • Coordinate with internal teams regarding scheduling, materials, and scope changes
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact during field execution

Customer Interaction
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding job progress, technical questions, and issue resolution
  • Represent the company with professionalism, accountability, and strong customer service skills

Required Qualifications

Experience
  • Minimum 4–6 years of hands-on DC power experience in telecom, data center, UPS, or utility environments
  • Proven experience leading job sites or acting as senior/lead technician

Technical Expertise
  • Strong understanding of DC power theory, batteries, rectification, and distribution
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and procedures
  • Strong math skills and comfort performing field calculations

Leadership & Professional Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor technicians
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with basic computer applications and field documentation tools

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; heavier loads with assistance
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work at elevated heights
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and industrial environments
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
  • Prolonged use of hand and power tools
  • Adequate vision including color recognition and depth perception

Pre-Employment & Compliance Requirements
  • Acceptable driving record (motor vehicle report)
  • Background check per company and customer requirements
  • Drug testing (pre-employment and random, site dependent)
  • Blood lead test
  • DOT physical and medical qualification
  • Ability to meet all physical and safety requirements
